Spanish Class!

Kyle has been taking Spanish class at daycare 2x a week! He really loves it and his teacher, Señora Maritza, says he's doing very well. He knows all of his colors and greetings, and can count to 10. He often insists on counting in Spanish at home and demands we do the same. What a smarty pants!

Wow... 2 years old already! We celebrated an extended Birthday weekend with Nana, Mimi, Papa, and Uncle Michael in town.

We had a great time this Halloween with Kyle dressed up as Elmo and Casie dressed up as Wonder Woman. We even had a back-up plan in case the Elmo costume came off.

June Miller

On Friday, October 24, my Grandmother June Miller passed away. The following was written by my Father, Fred:

Late Friday evening, October 24th, having just four days earlier celebrated her 86^th birthday, the cancer that had started a battle with her over 16 years ago, finally beat her.

She fought it as courageously as anyone ever has, and beat it for far more years than it beat her!

How did she do this?

From talking to her, family members, friends and personal observations I believe it was a number of things.

First of all, she had an amazingly positive attitude. She never doubted, until a terribly adverse reaction to her last chemo treatment, that she would win the fight.

I never heard her complain – never.

What I often did hear her express was how lucky she was.

A long, long life, with a lifetime mate for 64 years, four children, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a care-giver who has a place reserved in heaven, many, many friends, and a house she loved – what’s not to be grateful for?

She also believed she had the best doctors and medical treatments available.

My siblings and I agree that Dr. Peter Weiss, his staff, the BJC Hospice people, and everyone at The Siteman Cancer Center who contributed to her care, were the best.

She knew the hospital was the place to be for treating the cancer, but not for succumbing to it. Having lived in the same house for over 53 years, it’s the only place she wanted to be.

In the end, she, like my father, got her final wish, and died at home surrounded by family.

I’m lucky to have had her so long.

Weekend Fun

We went to two very New England places this weekend. Drumlin Farm on Saturday for our friend Sully's birthday (not cousin Sully, another Sully!). And then on Sunday we went to Honeypot Hill Orchard where we saw some goats, pigs, chickens and bunny rabbits. We also bought pumpkins, had homemade cider donuts and bought a homemade apple pie.

New England Aquarium Trip

It was a rainy day here in Boston so we decided to take a trip to the New England Aquarium. Kyle loved the jellyfish.

Dr. Kyle is here to help Cassie with her injured foot. Cassie sliced the webbing in between her toes this morning which initiated a trip to the doggy emergency room. $209 later, everyone is fine and resting comfortably at home.
